The spring semester is already halfway through, and as students begin to move from the rush of midterms to prepare for finals, another task on many of their minds is getting ready for residence hall room registration for the fall semester. The deadline for all registration applications, along with the $125 application fee, is Friday, March 12, 2010 and students are urged to finalize all room group decisions in order to secure a room for the upcoming semester.

Every semester, the office of residence life works to ensure that all rooming arrangements are processed and run smoothly so students can easily apply to live on campus to improve their on-campus educational experience. However, this year, Residence Life has a new online application for students to complete and submit online through their KeanWISE account. After logging in to their KeanWISE account, students are to click on the "Housing Application" link at the bottom right corner of the screen on the "Other" subtitle and select the appropriate term. Afterwards, select the building preferences based on the order of priority, choose personal preferences and roommate/suitemate preferences by typing in his/her username. All students should be sure that, when typing in the desired group of roommates, that each group member's application has every name.

Be sure to read all terms and conditions on the application and then submit the nonrefundable $125 application fee through the online payment process. Payments can be made via Master Card, Discover, Diners Club or American Express. Once the payment has been verified, the application will be submitted and students will not be able to make any changes, so it is strongly suggested for students to thoroughly review their application before submission. If students do not submit the payment, he/she will be able to return to the application with all fields previously selected.

Commuters are now also able to register for room selection with current resident students and join room groups. In order to apply for housing, students must be a registered Kean University full-time student during the 2010-2011 academic year, by May 1, 2010. Residents who are not registered or have under 12 credits will be removed from the room spaces they have chosen during the room selection process and placed on a waiting list. All outstanding university bills must also be paid as instructed by the student accounting office. Refer to individual KeanWISE accounts to check for flags or holds.

While residing in the residence halls, students are also expected to uphold a 2.0 grade point average. The Residence Hall contract can be terminated or suspended from any student who falls below the required minimum. If a student is academically dismissed, his/her housing is automatically forfeited and the housing application fee will not be refunded. If an academic appeal is granted, students must begin the room registration process again. An available space is not guaranteed.

On Wednesday, March 10, 2010 students who are looking for someone to room with for next semester should go to the Dougall Hall computer lab from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00p.m. for Housing Application Assistance Day when students can interact with each other to find a compatible match. Students who need help completing the online housing application should also go the Dougall computer lab on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. for assistance.

The first day of room selection will be in Downs Hall on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. for students who have already applied for their room before the deadline. Monday, March 22, 2010 will be the second day of room selection when only student in groups of four and six may select their room with their group, and Tuesday, March 23 will be the day for individual students, and groups of two and three to choose their rooms. Each group member will be emailed the exact time for their group to select a room.

All groups must be of the same gender. Groups of four and six are seen as complete groups and will be give first priority. Groups of two will be allowed to select a room before groups of three and individual students. For more information on room selection, refer to the online Room Selection Guidebook or contact the office of residence life at 908-737-6800.
