Kean University takes great pride in their school and what it has to offer. One of the many things that the Kean community takes pride in is the campus police. The police here at Kean work very hard to keep the campus free from harm and safe at all times. In recognition for all their hard work P.O. Randy Diakunczak and Sgt. Brett Wyatt, along with all the other cops at Kean University, were featured in the garden state's law enforcement journal New Jersey Cops.
The article was entitled Kean cops reach out to students and was featured in the November issue of 2009. The article showcased a current student named Lorena Ramirez who works hand in hand with the campus police. Her hopes and dreams are to one day become a New Jersey State Trooper. She is a volunteer worker here at Kean and she works at the police resource center located in the campus police headquarters. The article mentions how P.O. Randy Diakunczak and many other cops help Ramirez reach her goals and how Ramirez assists the cops in outreaches and communication with the students.
Ramirez's main focus is to develop a friendly bond between the students of Kean University and the officers. The police officers are here for the student's safety and the students should be able to trust them with any issue. Ramirez mentions in the article how the cops are here to help students in any situation whether it be car trouble or a personal problem at home or on campus. P.O. Randy Diakunczak states in the article "Problems usually start when children are young and if I can get to every kid before they have a problem, I've accomplished my goal. We have an open door policy for any student to come to talk with us." It is encouraged that students use these services to their advantage because the cops at Kean want the best for the students.
The campus police work hard in organizing events and making guest appearances at several different locations. They organize seminars that raise awareness against concerns such as drunken driving, dorm safety, and other safety precautions. The Kean cops also host drunken driving programs at local high schools and at Kean. The program showcases the drunken driving simulator, which puts students into a special car with fatal vision goggles.
The cops of Kean University do a lot for the students and deserve the recognition. The Kean community takes pride in what P.O Randy Diakunczak and all the other officers have been doing around campus. The campus police always are available for the students and the students should look for the campus police in any situation.
