This semester, Kean University will be among one of the hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement. Freshmen and seniors should expect to receive an email in mid February that contains a link to the online survey. The freshmen want to think about their first impressions of the university as well as the support they received when first entering Kean. Seniors can look to their past experiences and recall what they enjoyed the most about their college experience and any challenges they encountered along the way. Students should keep in mind classes they found difficult and which could have been more rigorous.

The purpose of the NSSE is to find out how college students spend their time and what they gained from their college experience. The results of the survey will also help faculty and staff improve their efforts to serve the Kean population. University policies and procedures can and will be improved based on student feedback. The survey wishes to measure "good practices" in undergraduate education. It will also reveal what students at different universities gain from their experiences as well as student behavior. The results of the survey will help students, parents, counselors, advisors, and researchers.

This semester is the time for students to provide this vital information regarding their experience at Kean University. Results may even be posted on Kean University's website! Find out how Kean compares to other schools and what the students have to say about their college experience and what they have gained by it. This survey is not required of students, but everyone is interested in the results, so anyone invited to participate is encouraged to do so. Additional information regarding this survey can be found at http://nsse.iub.edu/html/about.cfm.
