Last year's was a success and we can expect that this year will be no different. Among their many other activities, the annual Charity Ball is a major event sponsored by Psi Sigma Phi, Multicultural Fraternity, Inc. Funded by Student Organization, the 9 annual Charity Ball will be on Wednesday, April 29 in Downs Hall with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Last year's Charity Ball donated $1000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The fraternity felt the need to not only help one of its brothers and his daughter, but also everyone else who suffers from this disease.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation will be this year's Charity Ball donation recipient. The decision is always difficult, as there are many non-profit organizations that can truly benefit from Psi Sigma Phi's generosity. This year, the Make-a-Wish Foundation is expected to receive between $1000 and $1500.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation has been around since 1980. It is committed to enriching the lives of children who have life-threatening medical conditions by granting them their wishes. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish experience has on children, families, donors, sponsors, and entire communities. A child's medical eligibility is determined with the help of the treating physician. To receive a wish, the child must be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. According to wish.org, a wish is granted every 40 minutes.

This year's speaker will be a representative from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and, hopefully, will be joined by children who have had their wishes granted. Also joining Kean students at this much anticipated event will be women from the Isaiah House. This is being done in an effort to provide these women with an on-campus experience at Kean. The Isaiah House is a shelter for women who have been abandoned, raped, or abused. Recently, the fraternity helped by painting and cleaning the rooms and the house. "Doesn't it feel good to give back?" says James Charneco, senior accounting major and chapter president. He continues, "people usually want to go to an event where it's fun with loud music and dancing. The Charity Ball was created to give back to the community. As an organization, Psi Sigma Phi does a great job in hosting numerous fun and exciting programs, but at our annual Charity Ball, we really have the opportunity to give back, in some form, to the community. Junior computer science major, chapter secretary, and community service chair, Juan Lopez, says, "During the fall, we hosted the Multicultural Fest to celebrate the various cultures that are represented at Kean. In the spring, our event's purpose is community service".
