"I've been single for a while, so I feel like Valentine's is a special time. And I haven't been able to spend a true Valentine's with anybody, and I'd like to just spend time with someone and give them a gift."
THE UGLY
Julius Spinner, freshman Philosophy major, said
"My worst Valentine's Day was when my chick broke up with me the day before Valentine's Day through a text message. I wish she would have done it face to face."
Mikia Brown, sophomore Accounting major, said
"Valentine's Day usually sucks for me, but I was dating this guy and he said he would make it a good Valentine's Day. So the day comes and I get a teddy bear, a card, chocolates- all of that sappy Valentine's Day stuff so I thought 'Yay finally a good Valentine's Day'! Then this girl that I suspected him to be cheating on me with comes to me and says, 'I hope you like your Valentine's Day present, because I bought it."
Yomaira Carrero, senior Social Work major, said
"I remember one Valentine's Day my ex-boyfriend went out with his boys the day before and he got really sick. So on V-day he tried to take me out, but he couldn't because he was throwing up all day. Therefore, he brought me dinner to my house, which was a burned lobster and dry potatoes. I was so mad!"
Diandra Wilson, sophomore Psychology and English major, said
"Last Valentine's Day, my ex-boyfriend and I decided to give it another shot and go out for V-day. He drove all the way up to Kean from South Jersey, and we planned on going to New York for dinner and a movie. Before we left, I asked him if he was sure he didn't want to take the train because parking in New York can get expensive, but he insisted on driving. So we got to the city and we went to this great place for dinner. It was very romantic, had candles everywhere and roses for all of the couples. We had an excellent meal, paid the bill, and left to go to the car. We get there and he starts searching all over his pockets for his keys. I thought he was joking, but he seriously couldn't find them. So we walked back to the restaurant to see if they had the keys, and after searching the whole place, we found out that they didn't have them. My date had to call someone to open the car, so we could see if he locked them in the car. We found out that would take an hour and cost $75. The guy came and opened the car, and the keys weren't in there. We then realized that we had to call a locksmith, which would cost $200. My date didn't have that much money, so I had to call my dad and ask him to transfer money into my account. My dad's a nice guy, but not when you call him at midnight. So I called my dad and he freaked out, but transferred the money anyway. I had to walk all the way to this crappy McDonald's to get the cash out of my account, and walk all the way back to the bar. After waiting for another hour, the locksmith finally arrived, we paid him and headed back to Kean. That was my Valentine's Day last year. I hope this year is way better."
