FLOWER: Tea Rose

Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first Greek letter sorority among African - American women, was founded at Howard University, Washington, DC. The organization was founded on the premise that it would promote social and economic betterment on the local, state, national, and international levels.

The sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon work hard to up hold the values of our sorority; sisterhood, scholarship, service, social and self. We have received many awards for the many service projects we have done helping others. Working as a team, we try to better ourselves, our university, and everyone around us.

Delta Sigma Theta is a public service sorority. It was founded at Howard University. The sorority has a long history of educational, cultural, political, and social services in the public interest. Delta Sigma Theta is one of the largest predominantly African organizations in the country.

The founding sisters of Lambda Chi Rho had enough of having to fit a “jello mold” just to belong to a social organization. They came together to create a haven for individuality and still be members of a tightly knit cohesive group. In addition to social activities we participate in, such as mixers and Greek Olympics, we are dedicated to community service.

Lambda Tau Omega Sorority, Inc. was granted a charter in 1988 at Montclair State College. We especially promote education and dedication, for we feel that knowledge is indispensable, and hard work always pays off. We welcome womyn from all cultures to join us, for we believe that sisterhood has no color. We search for quality and not quantity. Additionally, we strive for a sisterhood bond, one that will last for eternity.

Goals: Scholarly excellence, empowerment of Latinas and the universal woman, cultural and political awareness, and community activism.

Lambda Theta Alpha was founded at Kean University in December of 1975. It was the first sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinas in the nation and the purpose of the organization is to create a support group for Latinas in higher education. It was initially established as an academic sorority and LTA is not an exclusionary organization.

Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. is an organization that provides a firm support and commitment based on the following objectives: promote academic excellence, enhance unity among all women, organize and support community oriented functions and organize and support college functions. Our unique sisterhood is constantly strengthened through our knowledge and understanding of diverse cultures.

Nu Sigma Tau Sorority is one of the oldest fraternal organizations on campus. The name was taken from the original name of Kean University, Newark State Teacher’s College. Nu Sigma Tau stands by eight bonds of sisterhood: friendship, love, trust, honesty, devotion, loyalty, respect, and sisterhood.

Our symbols represent main characteristics found in our sisters; the rose for beauty, the diamond for strength and the candle for warmth. As on of the oldest local sororities on campus, our history and tradition carries on into our 60th year of sisterhood. Our eternal friendship is never ending.

Omega Sigma Psi Sorority is a diverse, but close-knit group of girls. We stand for friendship, sisterhood and trust. We believe in helping our community by doing various service projects during the year and giving away an annual scholarship in the name of our sister who passed away in 1986. Omega is a great way to meet people and have fun - so come and see what we’re all about.

Rho Theta Tau’s primary goal and objective is for sisters to create fulfilling friendships while pursuing their education. We provide many services to the campus community by participating in Homecoming, Greek Olympics, Adopt an Area, and Freshmen Orientation throughout the year. Through the years we have helped many causes such as the Christian Children’s Fund, American Cancer Society, ARC and Special Olympics.

Our sorority is very diverse and believes strongly in our saying, “We can standout, but still stand together.” We believe in seeing what makes a person special in their own way, and becoming strong female leaders in society, not followers. Sigma Beta Chi provides a tightly woven web of friendships and support to its sisters, who become the most cherished part of college.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, is a historically black and international sorority that has been devoted to motivating youth to greater achievements, wholesome living, and exploring new horizons for almost 75 years. The divine unity of sisterhood is a legacy that bonds over 75,000 members found in over 450 chapters in Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and North America.

Sigma Lambda Gamma is currently the largest historically Latina-based sorority in the United States. We are an academic, cultural, service and social organization, dedicated to promoting the empowerment of women in higher education. Our primary goal is to promote our evolving and diverse cultures by sharing it with others through our five principles: Moral/Ethics, Community Service, Academics, Cultural Awareness & Social Interaction

The Beta Omega chapter of Theta Phi Alpha works toward a common goal of sisterhood, community relations and scholarship. Theta Phi Alpha has won many awards over the past years such as Sorority Sister of the Year, Highest GPA for a Sorority Member and “Faculty Advisor of the Year”. Theta Phi Alpha is committed to fostering good relations with the campus community and looks forward to meeting you at our future events.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. became the first official Greek - Letter sister and brother organizations to share a common constitution. The objectives of finer womanhood, sisterly love, scholarship, and service have brought women together who have similar ideals, tastes and aspirations to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek - Letter organization established for black college students, was organized at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in 1906. The fraternity was born out of a desire to promote close association and mutual support among African Americans at the turn of the century. The fraternity has a long and distinguished history of involvement, achievement, and leadership in civil and human rights efforts.

Iota Phi Theta’s purpose is the development and perpetuation of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood among men of color. While the fraternity’s membership is comprised primarily of African - Americans, membership is not restricted by race, creed, or national origin. Iota Phi Theta is the fastest growing predominantly black fraternal organization in America today, thus making it the fifth largest.

The goals and objectives are to promote brotherhood, maintain a standard of learning, develop character, respect culture, and practice chivalry.

Recognizing the advantages of fraternal brotherhood, the benefits of participating in common experiences, the educational training gained from group activity, the social and service contributions which are made by fraternal groups, and the general benefits to both the students and the college are a few of the reasons that Nu Delta Pi Fraternity, Inc. was established.
