Last Thursday, during Greek Olympics, Kean's Greek-letter organizations took a break from the more serious sports and participated in some goofy events. Goofy Events was like the college version of the ever-loved grade school tradition Field Day. Sororities and fraternities competed against one another in the Wheelbarrow Race, Three-legged Race, Relay Race, Tug-of-War, and Pie Eating Contest. Participating in the Events were the sororities Lambda Chi Rho (ΛΧΡ), Theta Phi Alpha (ΘΦΑ), Rho Theta Tau (ΡΘΤ), Omega Sigma Psi (ΩΣΨ), Nu Sigma Tau (ΝΣΤ), and the combined team of Mu Sigma Upsilon, Lambda Tau Omega, and Lambda Theta Alpha (LAM), and fraternities Psi Sigma Phi (ΨΣΦ), Sigma Theta Chi (ΣΘΧ), Sigma Beta Tau (ΣΒΤ), Lambda Theta Phi (ΛΤΦ), and Zeta Beta Tau (ΖΒΤ).
It was one of the first few days of spring which helped to get everyone in the spirit of Greek Olympics' Goofy Events. As they waited for the Events to begin sorority sisters and fraternity brothers grouped into their teams, stretching, posing for pictures, and psyching themselves up to win. Although the spirit of the afternoon was light and friendly, as soon as those whistles blew the competition was on.
Coming in first for the Wheelbarrow Race, walking on hands through grass and soft ground, was Rho Theta Tau for the sororities and Sigma Theta Chi for the fraternities. Bound together by blue and red bandanas, sorority Theta Phi Alpha and fraternity Sigma Theta Chi showed that team work and unity are important factors for winning the Three-legged Race. The laughter subsided and the competition stiffened when it came to the Relay Races, won by sorority Nu Sigma Tau and fraternity Psi Sigma Phi. Sorority Lambda Chi Rho and fraternity Zeta Beta Tau aced the tournament style Tug-of-War, after making sure their competitors where thoroughly covered in the volleyball courts wet sand. For the Pie-eating contest a crowd gathered around small circular tables as the teams shoved their faces in pie-tins full of melted whipped cream and gummy bears. Sororities LAM and fraternity Psi Sigma Phi spat their way to victory, removing the most gummy bears first. The crowd whooped and cheered for their cream covered friends and then proceeded to badger Alex Louis, Assistant Director of Student Life, for the results. But...the results were not in yet.
Now, with all the calculations done and no further ado, the winners of Goofy Events are (drum roll please), for the fraternities: Psi Sigma Phi in First, Sigma Theta Chi in Second, and Zeta Beta Tau in Third. For the sororities: Nu Sigma Tau in First, followed by Theta Phi Alpha in second and tied for Third, Omega Sigma Psi and Lambda Chi Rho.
